About Professor Mock

I teach poetry writing (and, when possible, American Literature—poetry, novel, short story). While I consider myself a formalist as a writer, I most enjoy creating tension between form and content. My tastes are eclectic: I admire Elizabeth Bishop on one hand and John Ashbery on the other. My goal as a teacher of poetry writing is to treat each poem according to its own ambitions and articulate the possibilities available for the next draft.
