Publications and Experience

Dr. James Simon demonstrates that you can combine careers as a working journalist and then as a nationally recognized college journalism professor. He wrote 4,000 stories for The Associated Press, then returned to school for a master’s and doctoral degrees at Arizona State University where he spent several years working with CBS broadcasting legend Walter Cronkite. Dr. Simon revived the journalism program at the University of the Pacific, then started the journalism program at Fairfield University. He has been honored as national college “Teacher of The Year”  by a division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Simon has served as faculty adviser to three different college newspapers. He is co-author of Environment Reporters in the 21st Century, plus dozens of original journalism research studies and more than 100 presentations at academic conferences.
