Multicultural Center and Sexuality and Gender Center (SAGE): A Taste of Culture Open

Description: Students, faculty and staff are cordially invited to visit the MCC and SAGE center. Come and learn about our programs, resources and enjoy a taste of our Southern Culture. 2014 Welcome Unity Bash

Description: Join the Multicultural Center and the Department of Residence Life as we kick off the semester with a live Mariachi band, DJ Prince Mal, SCSU student’s performances, multicultural trivia, light refreshments and more. Multicultural and International Reception

Chinese Mid- Autumn Festival Celebration

6th Annual Empowering Lives

Join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Latin dishes, live performances by SCSU students, and Honorable Bobby Gonzales discussing commonly held stereotypes and misconceptions concerning Latinos. Sponsored by: SCSU Multicultural Center & the Organization of Latin American Students.

Film: Latinos Beyond Reel

Join us as we view the film Latinos Beyond Reel, which examines how US news and entertainment media portray and do not portray Latinos. A Q&A and panel discussion will follow the screening. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by: Media Studies Department, Multicultural Center, Media Studies Club, Freshman Year Experience and with support from Student Life and OLAS. 

Celebración Hispana

This event is a hilarious, educational and cultural experience of comedy, theater, music and dance of the Latino Family Life, Afro-Latino Culture, Black/Brown Unity, Healthy Relationships, LGBT Concerns and Interactive Latin Dance. Join Maria after the show for a talk back in which she will discuss being an Afro-Latina writer/performer/producer and change maker in the entertainment industry. Modern-day slavery is alive and well in the United States, as thousands of victims are trafficked throughout the country to satisfy America’s $3 billion-a-year sex trafficking industry. Join us for a film screening and discussion. Sponsored by: SCSU Multicultural Center and Dr. A. Madlock Gatison of the Department of Communication. 

Film: Girl Rising

Join us for the film screening & discussion of Girl Rising. It tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world that face arranged marriages, child slavery, and other heartbreaking injustices. Despite these obstacles, the brave girls offer hope and inspiration. An innovative new feature film about the power of education to change a girl and the world. Sponsored by: SCSU Multicultural Center.

Annual Expressions of Social Justice Talent Show

When: Wednesday, November 5th 
Where: ASC Ballroom
Time: 7:30pm
Students from all across campus perform poetry, songs, and dance and then take one minute to dedicate their tribute to any work focusing on the theme of social justice. Come support your fellow SCSU students. Sponsored by: SCSU Multicultural Center. 

National Native American Heritage Month

The Challenges and Victories of Native Americans Yesterday and Today

When: Wednesday, November 12th
Where: ASC Theater
Time: 7pm
Hear keynote speaker Annawon Weeden, an Eastern War dancer, storyteller, actor whose expertise on eastern Native folklore and dance continues to be a source for educators around the world. Entertainment provided by Larry Fisher on the hand drum and light refreshments served with native foods. Sponsored by: SCSU Multicultural Center with support from the Connecticut Native American Inter Tribal Urban Council.
