Message from the Provost
Welcome to the Southern Connecticut State University’s Office of Academic Affairs. As you explore this website I hope you find the information you’re seeking and get a feel for the important and exciting academic programs, opportunities, and activities our university offers. In fact, exploration is key to an academic life and the life of a student.
SCSU’s Academic Affairs is comprised of the institution’s five academic schools (Education, Business, Health and Human Services, Arts and Sciences, and Graduate and Professional Studies), as well as Buley Library, International Education, Special Academic Programs and Sessions, Institutional Effectiveness, Educational and Assistive Technology, STEM Innovation and Leadership, and Sponsored Programs and Research. Each of these divisions has a dedicated focus on and commitment to student success
Southern is dedicated to the whole student, working collaboratively to promote academic success while insuring each student has access to an array of sports, social, and community activities. With over 114 undergraduate and graduate programs from which to choose, Southern’s students are provided with exciting academic options that are professionally fulfilling, prepare them for the future, and that serve the needs of communities, current and emerging disciplines, and critical industries throughout our nation.
What makes Southern special and unique? It all starts with you — our future and current students. Our student-centric faculty and staff are focused on SCSU’s mission and commitment to “academic excellence, access, social justice, and service for the public good.” At Southern, students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels have the opportunity to engage with faculty members in exciting cutting-edge scholarship, expand global horizons through study abroad, apply what is learned in the classroom through focused internships and clinical experiences, participate in Southern’s vibrant performing arts, positively impact the community through volunteer activities, and take the lead in efforts related to sustainability. Courses are taught by faculty members who are recognized leaders in their disciplines and innovators in the classroom. With exceptional opportunities to engage with faculty and peers in our centers and institutes, including the Werth Center for Coastal and Marine Studies, Center for Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Education, ConnSCU Center for Nanotechnology, and Center for Excellence in Mathematics and Science, the possibilities are endless for Southern’s students.
We welcome your thoughts and suggestions in helping to create the best learning community possible. I look forward to seeing you on campus and working with you in fulfilling Southern’s mission of “pursuing excellence, fostering leadership, and empowering communities.”
