Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship/creative activity.  Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach.

The Computer Science Department is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin August 2019.  The successful applicant must demonstrate excellence and a passion for teaching computer science courses at all levels in the undergraduate curriculum as well as graduate courses related to the candidate’s expertise and research interests.  We are especially interested in applicants whose expertise in software engineering, cybersecurity, human computer interaction and/or virtual reality will connect and integrate computer science with other disciplines and who have the potential to collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the University; however, candidates in other computer science related areas will be considered as well. 

The department offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and a Master of Science in Computer Science with concentrations in Software Development and Cybersecurity.

Teaching and research are mutually supportive activities at SCSU. Candidates should be strongly committed to the teacher-scholar model, which includes maintaining high-quality teaching along with an active research program which includes seeking external funding. All full-time faculty members serve as academic advisors and have service responsibilities within the department and the University. 

Required Qualifications:  Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or a related discipline); relevant teaching experience; a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; evidence of productive scholarly activity; and evidence of the ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.  ABDs will be considered only if the degree will be completed prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:  Preference will be given to those applicants with experience as a software engineer with expertise in cybersecurity, human computer interaction and/or virtual reality.  Also preferred is evidence of research conducted with undergraduate students; evidence of interdisciplinary collaborative efforts in research/teaching; evidence of curricular innovation and development; strong teaching evaluations and experience teaching at a university of similar profile in the United States.
