Our goal is to help you stay healthy and well

All registered students are welcome and encouraged to access the medical care available in Student Health Services. We would like to extend a special invitation to Graduate, Commuter, and Part-Time Students.

What are the benefits to utilizing Student Health Services for medical care?

Affordable and Convenient

Insurance is not required and there are no copays for visits. Occasionally, students may be charged a small fee for prescriptions or on-site testing, which is billed to the student account. Students are never asked to make any payments out-of-pocket. Lab services are available in-office and processed through Quest Diagnostics and the Department of Public Health. For those who may be without transportation, we partner with Chapel Street Pharmacy for prescription delivery.

We are familiar with the needs of our students

The providers in Health Services work to address the unique healthcare needs of our campus community such as evaluation of illness and injury, contraceptive counseling and management, sexual health, STI screening and treatment, and assistance with management of chronic illness. We also partner with on-campus Counseling Services to assist in holistically addressing the needs of students who may be experiencing mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, eating disorders, smoking cessation, or substance use disorders.

By accessing the available medical resources, students learn how to care for themselves and are better prepared to identify and address potential health and wellness concerns in a holistic, timely, and convenient manner. As a result, students are more likely to remain active and engaged on campus and focused on meeting their academic goals.

Regarding Health Insurance

SCSU does not require health insurance as a condition of attendance. Students are not charged for a University-sponsored insurance plan nor is there an online waiver to complete.

Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services are available to all registered SCSU students, regardless of insurance status. While most of medical services are free of charge prescriptions, laboratory tests, and diagnostic testing may have associated fees, which are billed to a student’s bursar account.

Student Health Services strongly encourages all students to keep a health insurance in the event of a serious illness, injury, or unanticipated surgery. Without adequate health insurance you could potentially be left with a significant medical bill or be unable to receive the care or medicine you need.

Accident Insurance

As part of your enrollment at the University, all full-time students are covered under the University’s Accident Insurance policy, which is different from typical health insurance policies.

How can students obtain health insurance?

Access Health CT can help you identify health insurance options that are best for you. Visit or call 1-800-354-2428 to see what plans are available.  Although not sponsored by the University, this is an available option for all students - for out-of-state residents
